Medical Physics and Biomathematics Group - Santiago Health Research Institute (IDIS)
Contributing to the development of new individualized therapeutic strategies
Research lines
The Group of Medical Physics and Biomathematics at the Health Research Institute of Santiago (IDIS) works on different applications of physics and mathematics in biomedicine. Particularly, most of our research is focused on the use of ionizing radiation in medicine, both for therapy (radiotherapy) and for diagnosis (medical imaging). Our most active research lines are:
- mathematical models of dose-response in radiotherapy.
- dosimetry of ionizing radiation.
- biokinetic models.
- machine learning techniques in biomedicine.
Team
PhD in Physics from the University of Santiago de Compostela (2013). Postdoctoral stay at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where she later obtained a professorship. In 2019 she joined the Health Research Institute of Santiago (IDIS) with a contract from the Marie Curie program (European Commission). She currently works at the University of Santiago de Compostela.
BSc in Mathematics (2017) and MSc in Industrial Mathematics (2019) from the University of Santiago de Compostela. She is currently working on her doctoral thesis in the Group of Medical Physics and Biomathematics at IDIS.
PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Santiago de Compostela (1999), followed by postdoctoral stays at the Complutense University of Madrid, La Sapienza University of Rome and the Autonomous University of Madrid. He is currently a tenured professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Santiago de Compostela.
PhD in Physics from the University of Santiago de Compostela (2006). Postdoctoral stays at the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (Italy), and the University of Liverpool. In 2013, he joined the Health Research Institute of Santiago (IDIS) with a contract from the Miguel Servet program, where he created the Group of Medical Physics and Biomathematics.
